Why do you love architecture and interior design?
Ever since I was a teenager I was fascinated with architecture and interior design and this passion has continued into adult life having renovated 4 homes! The opportunity to transform a blank canvas is always exciting, I don’t follow particular ‘rules’… my aim is to create a home that my family are happy in and that my children can freely play in.
What renovation projects have you completed?
When we were 23 years old we purchased our first home… a renovators dream with a kitchen that measured 2m x 2m! And that didn’t include space for a fridge. A year after living in this home the renovation plans begun and we embarked on our first project. We took the 1920s bungalow into the 21st century, knocking out walls, rebuilding a lean-to and stripping back layers and layers of paint… it was so much fun (but so very dusty and inconvenient!) Soon after the renovations finished we moved to London and within 2 years we bought a project in London, this time it was a derelict flat. We soon outgrew the flat once our first child arrived but it is still one of my favourite kitchen renovations that we’ve done. Across the ocean again and back to Australia, our next property purchase was designed to capitalise on a huge block of land. After renovating the bathroom and liaising with builders for 9 months to plan the major overhaul we got cold feet! We had just found an apartment right by the sea that was perfect for us… another blank canvas, it was only 7 years old but looked unloved. We knew we could transform it and this is our current home. The kitchen renovation commenced days after we moved in and we have almost completed the rest of our improvements. The main issue with apartment living is a lack of storage so that has been our biggest challenge this time around.
Can you describe ‘your style’?
Eclectic, relaxed and durable (ie- kid proof!). I also focus on quality pieces that will stand the test of time, I’d rather save for a special piece than contribute to land fill by updating the look every five minutes.
What do you love about online shopping?
It puts a massive range of products within the reach of everyone regardless of location. It is also much less stressful to shop online when you are looking for something particular or you have kids in tow.
